When Mom Gets Sick

A few weeks back I was lying in bed one night feeling absolutely awful, body aches, fever, ya know – just miserable. I remember praying that neither of my children would wake, that our puppy would actually sleep through the night, and that somehow, magically, I might miss the sound of my husband’s alarm clock. Unfortunately, everything I hoped and prayed wouldn’t happen, happened. As I slowly crawled back in bed for the third time, I couldn’t help but think of all my Mommy friends and the raw truth about being sick as a Mom! But first let’s talk about how a Mom actually gets sick.

Every Mom can relate to this blog post. Many Dads can too, but for this post I focused on my ladies! Working Moms, single Moms, SAHMs, it really doesn’t matter! I think it’s safe to say, as Mothers, that we actually dread being sick far more than cleaning up our children’s barf, snotty noses, diarrhea bums, or any other side effect that comes with having a sick child. We (Moms) are pretty good at taking care of sick children, and are also very cautious about spreading germs. So in theory, we should be able to avoid getting sick, but 4 out of 5 times this is how and why we get sick…

  1. Child comes home from school feeling sick. Depending on severity of sickness, Mom spends the next few days/nights caring for child. There is a lot of love and hugs nurturing your little bean back to health. Sleep is the last thing a mother worries about. Mom is aware that child number 2 will probably get sick next. Mom does her absolute best to keep children from sharing anything and spreading germs! But, this is like trying to keep the Real Housewives of Orange County (or any RH series) from fighting – Impossible!
  2. Sick child number 1 is finally doing better and Mom looks forward to a night of rest. Oh Mom, what were you thinking? A night of rest, lol! That was a great joke! Conveniently, child number 2 wakes up sick the same night child number 1 is doing better. The entire process starts again. Better pick up some extra coffee – gonna need it.
  3. Mommy adrenaline kicks in and you manage to get through a week of 3-4 hours sleep a night. Nothing really changes in your schedule. You still work, manage the household, meals, laundry, etc. It’s all good, you’ve got this Supermom and you’re not complaining! You continue to remind your husband and yourself these 3 things. 1. Don’t touch your face! 2. Wash your hands constantly! 3. Don’t eat or drink off anything that isn’t yours!
  4. Thankfully, the kids are better! They are back to jumping off beds, making messes, and fighting over everything. Good thing, because these were the things you missed most when they were sick and sleeping oh-so-quietly on the couch. Ha! You post an adorable Facebook picture that the kids are better and even though it was a hard time, you cherished the extra cuddle time. We are mothers, we always find the good.
  5. Although tired, you’ve done a pretty good job at staying healthy, but Dad just called from the office and is sick. Home he comes. Poor guy. He crawls in bed, turns on a movie, and sleeps for a long long time! Like the doctor says — > Rest is the key to a fast recovery! Sooooo, you nurse Daddy back to health bringing tea, soup, and trying your best to keep the kids busy and out of his space so he can get better. But, you can’t help remember the last time you were sick and the doctor told you to rest up. It’s always hilarious when a Mom is sick and friends or doctors tell her to go home and get rest. I mean really, it’s just such a funny concept. Mom, rest, ha! Another great joke. The only people who won’t tell you to go home and rest are other Moms. Why? Because they know two things. 1. None of the other family members will survive without you! 2. Nothing will get done!
  6. Dad is on the mend after resting like the doctor says! Phew, good thing most of your family follows the doctor’s orders. “Ge’ez Mom, you really need to listen better.” Anyhow, you’ve been so good about doing EVERYTHING to prevent getting this bug, plus you pray nightly that you will avoid it. You’ve lovingly cared for each family member, all you ask is to simply NOT GET SICK yourself.
  7. After a week of sleep deprivation and pushing your body to the limits, prayers aren’t enough. Not to mention that while your children were sick it didn’t stop them from touching everything and constantly sticking things in their mouths. It also doesn’t stop them from repeatedly coughing or sneezing in your face, and wiping boogers all over your clothes and body. What were you thinking? All the hand sanitizer and echinacea tea in the world couldn’t keep this bug away! But the truth is you did love those extra cuddles.
  8. Surprise! Lucky you! You’re sick and this is what your family thinks WHEN MOM GETS SICK! (from my fav Pinterest images)

New Years Eve – Girlie Glam

New Years Eve Girlie GlamStay on trend this New Years and embrace your girlie glam side! Nothing screams “Belle of the Ball” like a blush tulle maxi paired with a gorgeous sequins top. I adore this look, but you don’t have to shop this exact look. I often take inspiration from an outfit that one of my favorite bloggers or brands style and then put my own twist on it. One of my 2017 goals for a glaMoMorous life is to show readers how to do this as well. How to use what you have in your closet to embrace a trend rather than buying everything. To my readers that prefer direct shopping links..DON’T WORRY!! I’ll still have lots of shoppable posts because I know many of you prefer the ease of seeing an outfit and being able to click and buy. For my ladies who like getting a little inspo and then trying to recreate a look, this is actually easier to recreate than you think! Let’s talk it out. If you have a long maxi skirt in a solid color (doesn’t need to be tulle) then you’re half way there. Odds are you might own a gold, black, or silver sequins top (these colors go with everything). Tuck it in to accentuate your waist (if needed use spanx to keep it tight). Boom! You’re now the “Belle of the Ball”! Simple heels and a little red lipstick will up your glam factor! Note – If you don’t have a sequins top and want to try and grab one at the last minute, H&M, Forever 21, Zara, and Charlotte Russe (yes I typed that, ya know my love of mixing high and low) are your best bet for finding one quickly!

2016 was a remarkable year! As I sit here, pondering my top 5 favorite moments to share, I realize it’s so hard to list just 5! However, for the sake of y’all, I will refrain from listing 100 favorite moments because well.. that’s just a bit ridiculous. So, in no particular order here are some of my favorite memories to share. I should mention that at first every moment was about my children, lol, but I decided I could incorporate a few others.

  1. The moment my 6-year-old daughter started reading. I don’t mean putting a few words/sentences together, I’m talking full blown reading chapter books! I get so much joy out of hearing her read, and seeing the love she has for books. It’s an amazing mommy moment.
  2. Watching my 3-year-old (now 4) son ski down the bunny hill without an ounce of fear. He was so tiny, all bundled up, wearing a big smile, blazing down the hill!
  3. Celebrating my parents 40th anniversary. My mother and father are two of the most selfless, hard-working, loving individuals I know. They have been my greatest example of marriage, love, communication, and commitment. I am beyond blessed to have them as parents and grandparents to my children. Celebrating their 40th was a magical moment.
  4. My blog! I started this as a hobby and outlet as a stay at home mom. I’ve pushed myself more than ever in 2016 and the hard work is paying off with more opportunities, brand collaborations, and recognition! I can’t wait for 2017!
  5. If you follow my Instagram account then you know that we brought home our french bulldog fur baby, King Louis, in May of this year! We are over-the-moon in love and obsessed with our new family member. He brings us so much joy and truly completes our family!

Wishing y’all beautiful moments, treasured memories, and all the blessings a heart can know! Happy New Year! Blogger Note –> Of course on the day of shooting this beautiful look it was soooo sunny, so we ended up shooting in two different spots! Our second spot proved to have much better lighting!

Plaid Dress

Plaid Dress

Layers are the perfect look for winter time and this is such an easy look to duplicate. I love that the red in my plaid dress feels festive for Christmas and pairs perfectly with a faux fur vest and over the knee boots! It would also be cute paired with skinny jeans, a belt, and booties. You can grab my dress here for $20 (for reference I’m wearing a size small). Now let’s talk large totes! If you’re a mommy, then you know a great tote is one of your best friends. I think I can fit about 5 things in my small cross body bags, which is no good for lugging around crayons, snacks, band aids, wipes, and lovies. Regardless of trends, a mom always needs her totes! My large tassel tote was a fun find from Nordstrom Rack and fits everything I need when running around with the kids all day! I searched and searched for a similar tote and price point, but had no luck. My vest and Cole Haan boots are a few seasons old, but I found some great options (adore the Vince otk boots) to shop below! I can’t believe we are 5 days away from Santa’s big day! Who also feels like they need 36 hours in a day? Lol! Wishing y’all good luck finishing up your details the next few days! We all know at Christmas time, that being a Mommy = also being Santa’s BIGGEST helper!!

Tasty Sips – Tognetti Wines

The holiday season is my favorite time of year but for the past month our house has been pretty sick. With two toddlers we expect to have runny noses and coughs during the winter season, but it’s been Mike and I who can’t seem to beat this bug. So I apologize for being absent from the blog last week but I’m back! I’ve been brewing up a new blog series for a while and I’m excited to bring y’all – Tasty Sips! My husband has become quit the wine connoisseur over the years and is often a resource for friends and family when choosing wines. His passion and enthusiasm for wine is something we share together! So it seemed perfect for my first Tasty Sips post to be about wine!

Today’s Tasty Sip is from the Tognetti Family Winery. If you’ve never heard of the Tognetti Family Winery I had the great pleasure of connecting with granddaughter, Christina, who shared more about the family’s background and growing business. Grandpa Jack has been in the wine industry for over 30 years and is Schramberg’s top grower but it was his youngest son, Robert, that finally achieved the family dream and founded the Tognetti Family Winery in 2012. Mike and I opened the 2013 Chardonnay and enjoyed the brightness of this wine. The grapes are sourced from the family owned vineyard in the Carneros region of Napa Valley. With citrus and tropical notes it’s a balanced Chardonnay that drinks well now, but can also be aged to develop the characteristics of the wine. The Chardonnay would pair beautifully with various cheeses, a light pasta dish, fish, and most any salad. We love when friends bring a wine to dinner that we don’t know about. It always feels a bit more special and exciting to open something different than the usual grocery store choices. Take advantage of the 35% off Holiday Special the winery is offering for the 2013 Chardonnay.  If you wish to try it, grab a bottle here for only $35!

What to expect from the Tasty Sips series? Entertaining inspiration with great wine reviews, craft brews, delicious cocktail recipes, and kid-friendly ideas! Stay tuned!

Three Things

Hope everyone scored some great deals for Christmas during Black Friday/Cyber week. We certainly did! Here’s another post for my Three Things series! As Christmas and New Years approach I’ve been brainstorming tablescape ideas. It’s a process I truly enjoy. Although I love traditional holiday decor, I wanted to do something more playful and unexpected. I also wanted the table to excite the children, so when I popped in Marshalls the other day and found these adorable Nutcracker themed goodies, I knew I’d found my tablescape! How fun are these colors? Our Marshalls had plenty more of these Nutcracker items, so I’m guessing yours might too, if you feel so inspired to do the same. I can’t wait to build off this idea and share what our table looks like for Christmas 2016! As I create our table decor, I’ll be adding pics on Instagram if you need inspo! You could also just do this theme for the kids table!

I’ve just recently started using Vichy products and I’m really loving their masks. My skin gets dull and dry during the winter so it’s been a great addition to my routine. Stay tuned for a full review after a few more weeks using their products! Wishing you all a wonderful week!
