Three Things

The past three weeks have been super busy, but in a good way! If you caught my last post, then you know we were traveling for a week. Life is back to its normal chaos; school, activities, work, and social events. Adding to the mix, myself and two friends/fellow bloggers are attending a journaling class for five weeks. Our hopes – expand creatively, improve skills, and spiritually..dive a little deeper. We are in the second week of classes, and it’s been more than I expected. I’ve been jotting down notes, favorite quotes, and other tidbits to share once the class has ended. Journaling is much more than just writing (I’m sure many of you agree), and it’s been therapeutic to pick it up again. Since my journal exercises have been more intense and personally reflective, I’m happy to be taking a break from my serious side. Today’s series,Three Things, is all about simple and beautiful items that I’ve recently picked up.

BowlsI finally purchased these lovely bowls. Mornings are crazy getting out the door, and I LOVE my coffee time. More often than not, I savor my coffee too long, feed and dress the kids, but forget or leave little time to eat. I’m hoping these beautiful bowls will remind me, that it only takes a few minutes to incorporate a healthy breakfast each day.

LipstickI love a nude lip. Especially paired with a smokey eye. After trying several brands, this has been my favorite nude lip set, but sadly is no longer available. If you love what you see, go to a Mac store, and request a similar color scheme as the Mac Keepsake Nude Lip bag.

Target_bagThis bag from Target, is fabulous. I’ve used it as a beach bag, or a tote for carrying all the kids park necessities. Loving the bright colors and great pattern. Target never fails. I heart Target!

Three Things

Good morning from Southern Cal! Excited to be spending MLK weekend celebrating the arrival of our friend’s baby, Gus, in one of California’s greatest beach towns. Three things from this week..

LA_tripJust unpacked and ready for my old stomping grounds, Manhattan Beach. What’s not to love, warm weather in January, reading this book on the beach, and fabulous shopping. I can’t wait to check out Wright’s boutique in Manhattan Beach. Love love this place for finding unique and stylish pieces.

Audrey-reading

Potty training is here. Jack is ready and excited to be in his big boy undies (superhero of course). For most, mornings are crazy getting out the door. It really doesn’t matter if you have kids or not, we are all scrambling, but adding a couple rambunctious kids to the equation definitely brings it to another level. I pretty much focus on them, hopefully brush my teeth, and throw on sunglasses for school drop off (regardless if it’s foggy or not, sunglasses are a mom’s best friend in the early mornings). Adding any new steps to our routine isn’t ideal, but potty training takes patience, and when you “gotta go, you gotta go”. So, we have a new step to our morning routine that, lo and behold, I did NOT have to implement. Monday morning, I walked to the family room to find Audrey reading a book to Jack while he sat proudly on his new red Bjorn potty. I quietly watched them from behind and it was one of those parenting moments I’ll never forget. Pure sibling sweetness.

Thug-kitchen

For Christmas this year, the “Thug Kitchen” cookbook was a popular gift. My husband picked it out for his middle brother, Kevin, purely based on the writing in the book and not the recipes. The recipe’s are healthy and vegan but the writing is hilarious and foul. Definitely, not a gift for grandma or your little niece (unless you want her to have a trucker’s mouth). Kevin and Mike share the same dry, witty, over the top sense of humor, so it was only fitting that Kevin also gifted the same cookbook to Mike. Hilarious! We had a Thug Kitchen party at our house where everyone picked one recipe to make from the book. We tried the Roasted Chickpea and Broccoli Burrito, Five Spiced Rice, and Cauliflower Wings. The other two recipes are not listed online, sorry, but can be found in the book. For those who are vegan, I think the book has great recipes. Our house happens to be meat, seafood, dairy loving eaters, so it was a fun experiment, but the recipe’s probably won’t make the regular rotation. Until next time..

Three Things

Three things from this week…

Handley

During a recent trip to Anderson Valley, Mike and I discovered Handley Cellars, and let me just say that the sparkling wine produced here is SPECTACULAR! If you’re a fan of sparkling wine, champagne, prosecco, and so on, then you will not be let down. We tried the 2003 Brut at a Mendocino restaurant and immediately fell in love. The next day we ventured to Philo to learn more about Handley, and hopefully take home some of this liquid gold! Which I’m happy to report, we did! Currently the winery is sold out of all sparkling wine, but various vintages and varietals (2003 rose is supposed to be lovely) can be found in restaurants. So…if you fancy a glass of bubbly before dinner, do scan the list for Handley. I’m hoping we can splurge and open one of our bottles for Sunday football!

Star_cluster

I’ve always loved the paper lanterns and pom pom’s that are trendy now. Having used them at various birthday parties, baby showers, or dinner parties, I have a hefty pile on hand. So.. I FINALLY, hung the children’s cluster in their shared room. With the help of my awesome brother-in-law. YAY! The various lanterns are from Martha Stewart, and the star was ordered from Amazon. When I lay Jack down on the bedroom rug to change his diaper, he looks up at the cluster, and starts to sing twinkle twinkle little star. I guess he likes the paper star best. Super easy to do with some fishing line and clear tacks.

Jack_Jersey

Football season has begun, whoop whoop. The first day of the season is honestly my husband’s favorite day of the year! Monday’s change from the dreadful first day of the week, to MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL fun! For me, football represents the beginning of Fall, Sunday’s with family and friends, lots of cooking, baking, and well I love this time of year as well. This year, Jack got his first official Seahawks jersey and is pretty pumped about it.

Until next time…Happy Weekend!

Three Things

Whoop whoop it’s the weekend. Three things from this week…

Jack-upside-down

1. This kid and his boot obsession are still holding strong. If this is any sort of precursor for my weekend, then I’m thrilled. I’ll have cowboy Jack and Aquaman Audrey for entertainment.

Fergie-Shoes

2. Cough cough…I bought Fergie shoes! You are probably thinking, “Really???”. I am a fan of Black Eyed Peas, and Fergie herself, but didn’t know she had a footwear line. Although when you think about it, what celebrity doesn’t have a fashion line, which I find a bit annoying at times. Nonetheless, I love these shoes and the $39 sale price even more. They are not leather which usually I’m not a fan of, but these were too cute for spring. (From Nordstrom Rack but found here as well).

Wine-

3. Tonight’s vino. Mike’s second love after his family, is wine! He has become very talented at finding fantastic value wine, and I’m happy to reap the benefits of his growing talent. At $26 a bottle the Insoglio del cinghiale 2011 is just lovely. It’s a blend of Cab, Merlot, and Syrah. I highly recommend giving it a try. Cheers and wishing you a wonderful weekend.
